BACK-UP ASSISTANT APPLICATION

✨ Please Read Before Applying✨

This opportunity is open to painters based in the Raleigh–Durham, North Carolina area. The primary install window for this mural project is Sunday, May 24 – Sunday, May 31, 2026, with backup weather dates from June 1 – June 9, 2026, so applicants must be available during this timeframe since painting days may shift depending on weather. Typical workdays will be about 4–5 hours, usually starting in the morning (around 8:30 AM–1 PM or 9 AM–2 PM). The project involves helping install pavement murals throughout downtown Raleigh! Assistants will help with painting color sections using rollers and brushes, setting up the mural site (tape, cones, wet-paint markers, and supply tables), organizing materials, and packing up between locations. The work is outdoors and active, so applicants should be comfortable standing, bending, kneeling, walking between sites, and occasionally lifting paint buckets (about 10 lbs) while wearing clothes and shoes that can get paint on them.

Commonly Asked Q’s

  • You don’t have to be a full-on muralist, but you for sure need to have painting experience, whether that’s fine art, large-scale, or decorative work. I’m looking for folks who are comfortable with a brush or roller in hand and can follow direction with care. Please include a few photos or a link to your past painting work so I can get a feel for your style! 🎨

  • Nope! This is a freelance, project-based role. You’ll be added to my assistant roster and contacted when new mural opportunities come up that require assistance.

  • It depends for each project! For this project, we have a specific timeframe that it needs to be installed.

For walls - Some months I might have one big mural, other times a few smaller ones. I’ll reach out in advance to check your availability before each project that needs an extra hand!

  • Mostly in the RDU + Charlotte area, with occasional installs around the east coast (and beyond 👀). You’ll always know the location before confirming a project.

  • Collaborative, energetic, and photo-worthy! We listen to music, take breaks, enjoy a team lunch (on me 💖) and celebrate progress while keeping the work clean and professional.

  • Usually between 4–6 hours, depending on the size, weather, and how many hands we’ve got on deck.

  • Nope! I’ll provide all paint and tools. Just come ready to work, wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on, and bring water + snacks.

  • Not always! Since projects vary in size, style, and location, I’ll reach out when your skills or schedule align best. Think of it as being part of a creative crew on call.

  • I’ll reach out by email or text to confirm dates, location, rate, and project details. You’ll have the option to accept or pass for that job.
